Grangeville Centennial Library Board Meeting

May 28, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by Dave Rauzi, President.

The minutes of the last meeting were approved as circulated.

Linda introduced Brittney Brooks who will be helping with the summer reading activities. She has planned activities for two age groups in addition to our regular summer reading program. From June 15-June 19, Brittney will be at Kids Klub and then will be involved with the activities at the library. Linda has been contacting sponsors for summer reading and so far has collected $285.00. Joan volunteered to contact the lawyers for donations. Linda would like to have donations by June 15th. Brittney will be employed under the Summer Youth Employment program at Job Service from June 12 through August 3.

The circulation report was given. Linda felt that the lower number reflected the 3 day closure but that circulation remained steady. ILL numbers show increased usage.

Linda reported that the city may experience a revenue “shortfall” but she feels the library should be able to stay within its budget. It was moved that Mike be appointed to help Linda do the budget for next year. The motion passed.

The final day for Story Hour was May 20th with 13 children attending. Susan Bird will do it again next fall.

The E-rate forms have been filed. Linda has not heard back from any grants that have been applied for.

Linda gave Dave her official notification of her upcoming retirement. It was decided to use the city application, a pre-application questionnaire, and a resume for the position of Director. The position will be advertised, June 17, 24, and July 1 in the local paper with a deadline for applications July 10th. Dave will check with the City Council to include a member of the personnel committee to be part of the hiring committee. The board will look at applications before the July meeting and at that meeting determine which applicants to interview. Applications will be available at the library or City Hall.

Kindergarten Roundup was a success with 50 children registered. VALNet has new cards for children getting their first library card and Linda has ordered them.

New Business:  Voyager upgrade is scheduled for the first week of Summer Reading. The library will not shut down but may have some limitations in what they can do. They will use the offline feature because the system will be down June 16-18. John Sangster will check the system on the 18th to make sure it works correctly.

Our next meeting will be July 23 at 6:00 pm.
